Annie and the Goats meet Bertha

Good Morning,
I just wanted to update you on what has been happening here on the farm with Annie and the goats.
You remember Suzy? The goat we bought that escaped for 5 days and Annie and the goats were so mean to?? It just didn't work out with Suzy so she went to a new home. She would stand out in the rain by herself and Annie and the goats still would push her around.

We decided a more mature female goat would fit in better. Enter Bertha. Bertha had been neglected. Her feet needed trimming real bad. A good worming and in a few days she was looking better. Bertha was isolated from Annie and the goats just in case she may have some disease they might catch. Bertha has this little lady like baaaa, low and meek. I thought she is going to be such a sweet goat. Wrong.... after a few days of the goats talking through the fence we let Bertha in with Annie and the goats. This is what happened!

Bertha runs out fighting. She immediately goes for the first goat that was handy..which was white ears, the male goat. Annie hid behind me and would run over and do a little push and then run back behind me. Bertha definitely wasn't a Suzy.

They all seem to be settling down and getting a long better.
I took this picture yesterday evening as they all headed to the barn for supper.

Annie and the goats let Bertha eat all by herself and Bertha is still being the boss.
Boy, did Annie and the goats learn a lesson. What you do on to others, others may do on to you too!!
Have a great day!

Your goats act just like my dogs do when I bring home someone new. That's too funny and I love the pictures with the quote bubbles. What a beautiful place you have!

Poor Suzy. I hope she finds new and much nicer goats. I can't believe they were that mean to her!!! I hope Bertha keeps them in check. I never knew that goats could be so mean!!!

Hi Pam,

I was wondering what Animated Annie was up to these days! Well, it looks like she might have met her match in Bertha! It is going to be fun watching to see if those 2 ladies can become friends :)

Your previous post about your early married years was absolutely beautiful. That is what it should be ~ working to build something together. You and Billy dreamed and worked on what you hoped your life would be someday and it has happened! You are indeed blessed! I hope when I find my Prince Charming and settle down it will be like that!!

Speaking of Prince Charming...girl, you are delightfully naughty to tell me all about Billy's brother. My single girl's heart can't take it :) There's got to be something wrong with him, right?? Six toes on each foot? He likes to listen to Barry Manilow? ??? I mean, a guy can't sound that PERFECT!!! :)

So, you left a poor Frenchman's heart broken, did you? :) I'm sure he is over there today, saying (in his saucy accent) "Ahhh, I knew zis bootiful leetle Georgia girl wonce....she leeft me at ze fontaine...an I dreem uv er eevin toooday!" :) Well, it is something like that, anyway! But, I think it turned out well with you and Billy, though!

Country Hugs,
Bebe :)

Wow! How long will Annie and the goats put up with bossy Bertha? Do goats have Alphas?

Hello, fellow Georgian! I don't have any goats but I do have 2 gorgeous gray cats! Oh, I'd love to live on a 100 acre farm! I'm in Valdosta on 1/2 acre, which is actually more than enough for me to care for. My office is on 2 acres that backs up to a Swamp. A little piece of heaven as far as I'm concerned! I'll be checking in on you!

This post had me giggling.....but also thinking and worrying.

If you've read my blog lately, you'll see that I just purchased two more angora goats, Lily & Cloud, to buddy up with my first angora, Luna.

When Luna first met Cloud and Lily, she head butted them all over. But they head butted right back.
And now everything seems hunky-dory.

Well crazy me, brought home a bottle baby Boer wether today. He's the youngest at only 3 months old and he acts more like a puppy who would rather be with humans.

All 3 angora goats chased him and charged after him when they were in his 'segregation' pen for a few minutes.
And all he did was run away and cry. And then he'd try to hide under my arm pit!

I sure hope that my angora goats won't bully him like your 'pack' did to Suzy!

Poor Suzy!

Is there any way I can tell if things won't improve and the poor baby will not be accepted by the others?

It's good that Bertha is defending herself. I think that's the key to them accepting her. I took in an old Pygmy and mine were a most unwelcoming bunch. He finally had enough and starting butting back. They backed down right away. He still kind of lives on the outskirts but seems happy to just have a family.
When do the biddies come?

Oh no! Poor Suzy....sigh. I am glad that you were able to find a new and better home for her, though. What interesting goat behavior...there's clearly a pecking order among them, just like with hens.

It looks like Bertha and Suzy maybe had a little arrangment going on... "Okay, Bertha, you go in and show them who is the REAL boss. Then, I'll come back to town and you'll make them like me!" A goat's gotta have a plan.

Thanks troubeX2. I guess all animals have to establish a pecking order.

Hey Judy. Suzy did find a good home where she is the only goat. Bertha certainly has kept Annie and the goats in line this week. Thanks

Bebe, what can I say..I am still working on it. I don't give up easily. I love your french accent.lol.. I am going to have to find those old postcards. You know what else?? I had a picture of me and the french guy standing in front of the Eiffel tower. Can you imagine that?? Farm girl in Paris. A story by itself. Thanks Bebe

Emma and her Mom..so glad you are back. Thanks for thinking of me too for the award. That is so sweet. Thanks

Hi Tanya. I am hoping we won't have any bullies after this week. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the invite Brines.

Hi Fay, Annie was the alpha for so long she can't imagine another bossy goat on her turf. Thanks

Hi willthink4wine, so glad to meet you. I enjoy visiting your place too. Thanks

Hey twinville, I hope your angoras aren't still bulling the baby. We have found if we get more than 1 goat or cows to put in with the ones we already have, they get accepted faster. The ones that came together usually stick together too. Thanks for stopping by.

I think you are right Goatgirl. The defending part goes a long way.
My biddies are due March 24th. I can't wait!

Hey Danni, yes Suzy went to a good home. Don't you just love it animals get along. It is so much nicer. Thanks

Hi Reynie, you may have something there. So glad you stopped by.
