Good Morning,
Young Dreamers Chapter Seven
Finishing inside and outside

After living in the little trailer for over a year and another winter was in full blast, we moved into the unfinished new house. For the first time in our lives we had store bought heat. Two electric heat pumps heated the house plus we had a wood heater(of course) in the living room and moved the wood heater from the trailer to the basement.
When we moved in it still looked something like this.

We started at the very top of the house and finished a room at a time. Went on the next room.
It took over a year to finish the inside while we were living in it. Billy built a shop on the property where he could do work on tractors and trucks so we would have income coming in.
We never borrowed money to finish the house. We would wait until we had enough for whatever we were working on. We never used a credit card. We still drove used cars and Billy still had the 1953 International truck he drove. I still shopped at thrift stores.
On one of the trips to the sawmill in the Georgia mountains we would pass the Georgia marble mines. At one place we saw a few pallets of marble tile sitting out front of one of the businesses. I talked Billy into stopping and we asked about it. The man said they were imperfect pieces, some had corners missing, lines through the marble and so on. We looked at the shiny grey-white marble and all I saw was beautiful stone. Then Billy asked how much and we couldn't believe the price. Less that 1/2 price of what it sold for in stores. We bought 2 pallets. This was before we finished the house and the marble sat out front of the trailer then the house for a long time. Then we were finally down to the floors.
Here is the same front hall with the marble on the floors.

The ceilings downstairs were 10 feet high.
We also found a lot of the lighting on clearance for 1/2 price at one of the building supply stores.
Here is the front entrance.

Billy made all the kitchen cabinets.

We had enough of the marble tile for the kitchen floor too!

And for the dining room.

The dining room floor was my favorite floor. Billy took the broke pieces of marble and put it around the edges. It turned out the best I thought.
The carpet in the downstairs living room was the last flooring. (We even put marble behind and under the heater)

We worked hard and we played hard too. Here are the boys on one of the tractors Billy fixed up to sell.

I told Billy when I was looking through these pictures to put on next,we always looked like we were having fun.
We were far enough north in Georgia where we had a few snow falls. Here is one.

A back view of the house. We had back porches, upstairs and downstairs.
This is in one of the snows. There was 2 creeks that ran on both sides of the house. Where they met we built a pond.

A front view of the finished house.

We started farming. We bought a big deep freezer and filled it with vegetables. I also bought a new pressure canner and can everything I could. We ate well.
Next week I will have some more pictures of the barn, shop, and house.
We were still working hard as usual.
Just a reminder, this is not the place or house we live at now.
I hope you have a great day.

Your house is absolutely beautiful! It's really stunning!
Yay! I'm lovin' this story. Every time you post another chapter, I read it over and over in case I missed something. (Yeah, I'm sappy and dumb, but I can't help it!)
The house was beautiful! You guys have always worked so hard.
Just a thought - why not add a link to the previous/next entry in the series to the bottom of each post? It would make it much easier for people to read the whole series. :)
Solomon.
You make such a great team!
What a labor of love! We lived in a 100 yr old house when we were first married and I still miss the 12 ft ceilings, pocket doors and all the beautiful woodwork. HOWEVER...I do not miss the spooky basement where the washer and dryer were. It wouldn't have mattered if if the light bulbs were 1,000 watt...that place was spooky. I wish we had been as wise as you photographed our projects in that beautiful old home..what a treasure you have for your boys.
What a great job ya'll did! I've just been looking at the pictures in your album and really enjoyed them.
What a great job of remodeling you did on this place, i love the pillars on the front. It turned out very nice. Did you live there long as i see you no longer live there
Looks like a lot of hard work went into this place. It is beautiful. We have a small branch (smaller than a creek) running through our property. We plan to build a pond in the near future.
Thanks grateful guy. And I will have to try to link the stories together too.
Hi farm chick Paulal. Aww now, you're not sappy and dumb. I appreciate the comment.
Hey Judy. Thanks. I am glad you stopped by.
Thanks Tanya.
Hi Jan. The house sounds great. I would love to see pictures of that. Thanks
Thanks Dot. I am so glad you like the pictures.
Hi Lilli and Nevada. We lived there about 6 years. Not long at all. Thanks
Hey Andrea, I know your pond will look beautiful. Thanks for the comment.
I just love the stories! In so many ways it moves me! As a young couple starting out, it makes me look forward to our life together even more!
Your ability to tell a story never seizes to amaze me. Wow! Your stories typify true courage and love. I feel honored and overwhelmed as I read and see the hardwork and of course the absolute pay off. I believe that where there is a will, there is always a way, and you and your family have proven this to me once again. I know there is much more to come and as always I wait anxiously to read the next chapter.
God bless you all. :)
The house is just so beautiful! It makes me ache just looking at it. I'd be interesting in hearing why you moved after all the work you put into it.
I'm with Christy, I wonder why you moved after all this work. But then I see the place you have now and it's beautiful too.
I wish we were closer and could hang out so your hubby would rub off on mine:) I always tease him that Half ---ed Constuction lives here.
Very beautiful house but what I like most is you did it dept free.
Can't wait to hear when the goats come in.
First I read the next chapter about your house a couple of times to myself; then, I read it aloud to my hubby. Then I insist he come and "Just LOOK" - thank you so very much for sharing, dear one.

Am so envious, what a beautiful place you have. :-)
I am behind on your blog. I have been very busy the last few days. I will have to come back later when I have more time to catch up. All this is so interesting to me.
