I want to show you how we spent part of last weekend.
First in the garden.
Billy is mowing and hoeing. That is what our oldest son called it when he was knee high to a knat.
Now I did the hoeing between the plants until the hoe broke. (I didn't do it on purpose). Billy told me there is a back up hoe in the barn. I will try and find it real soon.
You remember the part of the old waterwheel I found over a year ago? I guess it has been in the creek for over a hundred years.
My son and a friend came over Saturday and pulled the piece out of the creek. Here is what the whole thing looks like.
It looks about 2 feet tall and weighs a lot.
It wasn't on the actual water wheel but was used in running something powered from the water wheel.
I don't remember telling you about my metal detectors. Billy gave me one years ago for my birthday. I decided a few years ago to buy a super doper one. I hadn't figured out how to work that thing yet, so we use the simple one. We decided to see what we could find where Billy had cleared out around the water wheel. We found a few nails, bolts, screws. No pot of gold. I want to try some more later.
Then we worked on the sawmill a lot this weekend. I will have pictures to show you of before and after on it soon. It is coming along nicely. We should be sawing lumber in a week or so.
I hope you all have a great day!

I love finding old things. My girls have a metal detector like the one you showed. We are always hoping we find treasure. You know in the old days folks just threw their trash that wouldn't burn out into the woods somewhere. If you could find where on your land-I bet you could find some neat old bottles.
Hi Pam,
Looks like you had fun over the holiday weekend ~ hahaha! I know you are delighting in your metal detector. I've always wanted one of those so I could take it to the beach (see if I could find some pirate's loot!). Maybe one day I'll get one!
I'm going to make your peach cake this week. That looked like a really good summer recipe!
Lots of hugs,
Bebe :)
P.S. I think the birds have come over to my house. I found baby birds in one of the bushes by my back door yesterday!
My father-in-law has one of the super-duper metal detectors, which so far has unearthed mostly unidentifible pieces of metal. No pots of gold here either. But my fingers are crossed for us both. We might need it for putting gas in our cars. :)
How much fun would a metal detector be? I love beach combing and would like to have a metal detector, must look into how much they are, thank you Pam. I wish I could have a garden as lovely as yours, am not allowed to dig up my yard but I will make do with planter boxes for now.
That's cool... what you found. I hope you find something with your metal detector too.
Wow, that's some garden! :-)
Looks like you had a productive weekend! What a discovery in the creek. A metal detector should be fun...maybe you'll find more treasures on the farm!
What's more fun, working the field or doing archaeology? Your own metal detector, wow! Sounds like a great life you have.
I love the way you are reawaking the land! How cool to find something that old and still intact. Your blog always impresses me!
I do too, Tipper! Love finding old things. I am still looking for the bottle pile. Thanks
Hey Bebe. Yeah, I want to find some loot too.lol..Hope your cake turns out good. Thanks
Hi Cathy. I may need to talk to your father-in-law to learn about my metal detector. Thanks
Thanks Nunyaa. I know your flower boxes are just beautiful too. Have a good day.
Hey Petula. Glad to see you back. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Pony Girl, I am still looking for those treasures. Thanks
Archaeology is Dina! By far. I love looking for things from the past. Thanks for the visit.
Thanks Caution, I appreciate the comment and the visit.
