Project of the week Chicken Nest Box

Good Morning,
We have a new project this week here on the farm. It has to do with chickens. That 's a surprise to you, I know.

Chick keeps insisting on laying her eggs in farm man's shop. In the process she knocks down a lot of junk, I mean farm man's things. She needs a nest box.

We have an old rusty nest box left from when we raised chickens years ago. The wooden roost have rotted away and the whole box is in bad shape.

So--farm man Billy decided to build some new metal chicken boxes. He starts with a long piece of galvanized metal.

He uses the press to bend the pieces he has cut.

Then the finished nest. I think it looks wonderful.

Farm man Billy then decides he likes building the nest boxes and tries a four hole one. He is going to put the wooden roost on the four hole nest also.

We have several future customers waiting in line to use the new chicken nest boxes.

This doesn't have anything to do with the chicken nest, just a picture of my Day Lillie's that started blooming and I wanted to share them with you.

Have a good day!

The Hemerocallis are gorgeous.

Could you sell the chicken boxes on ebay?

I guess I never thought of metal nesting boxes. We just always had wood ones. Seemed natural but metal ones won't get bugs and such. Good idea and I hope you get a good business selling them. MB

I love your new banner w/the water wheel!
Those are great boxes. He is quite talented. I am sure there is a market for something like this. Hope the hens appreciate all the hard work!

Hi, I just stumbled upon your blog while looking for chicken nest boxes! I was quite impressed with them--and excited to hear that you intend to sell them at about half the price of the online poultry stores! Am I to assume they would come assembled, as opposed to "Assembly with pop rivet gun (not included) required"?? I'd like a 6 hole box, if possible! I think that's supposed to be enough for 25 hens, right? And shipping to near Nashville, TN?? Please contact me! Thanks!

Hey! I also came across your site while searching for nests boxes. I'm building my own from 1/2 inch plywood.

I'm glad to have found your blog. LOVED the list of animals!!! We're up to three dogs, three cats, 36 chickens, two goats (one of them is a REAL cry-baby!!!), a hamster, a bird, and we're currently building a fence for the three calves that are coming home this weekend.

Anyway, I plan to come back again soon.
