Vegetable of the Day is Silver Queen Corn

Good Morning,
If you haven't ever tried Silver Queen Corn you are missing out on a good sweet corn.
With the drought we had this spring and early summer, the corn really suffered. We didn't make very many ears of the Silver Queen this year.

The Silver Queen makes a pretty white ear of corn.

It is good cut off the cob and has a sweet, smooth taste.

It freezes well too.

I found this site.Click here>Silver Queen Corn that tells a little about the corn and you can order seeds too. I haven't ever ordered from this site, I just thought in case you wondered about the seeds/price, it looked like a reasonable price. Corn seed prices really went up this year.

It is almost daylight and I will be back in the garden this morning. I have okra, butter- beans, butter-peas and tomatoes to pick today. I hope to get my first vegetable soup canned today too. I'll have pictures to share with you on the soup making also.

I hope you all have a great day!

Mmmm... I LOVE corn of any kind. Hubby laughs at me because I really make a PIG of myself with an ear of corn and a tub of butter. It's really ugly. LOL

We planted Silver Queen for several years until my husband discoverd Golden Queen. I liked it much better and it was a couple dollars cheaper per pound for the seed. Our corn crop was a disaster this year due to the deer getting into it and lack of rain and then my husband didn't much feel like fooling with it. Maybe next year. I do love corn tho and yours looks delicious!

You know, if you hadn't had the drought this summer, you would be working and sleeping out in that huge garden this summer!

Your post makes me painfully yearn for the delicious Silver Queen corn we used to buy at Farmer's Stands on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Silver Queen must be the most sweetest, delicious corn on the planet.

Thanks for helping me recall such wonderful memories.

Enjoy your corn and have an ear...or two or three for me :)

Looks good and nothing like fresh corn! Our family put away some corn this weekend and will be doing it again tonight. As it gets ready, we have to be ready. But it is so worth it in the winter time! I just love it! I'll have to ask hubs what kind we grown. I should know these things.

I would ask what time you get up, but I don't think my lazy bones could stand to read your answer :)

I have only ever seen white corn once before. Am the same as farm chick paula, nothing better than eating an ear of corn with butter, except the bits that get stuck in your teeth lol.

You mean you are posting before daybreak?! It all sounds very hard work. You plant,harvest,freeze/dry and then cook! It is definitely from plot to pot for you but you do get enjoyment from it which comes across in your posts.

That silver Queen looks delish. My dad has always grown candy corn, it is a sweet as candy also. I'm gonna tell him of your silver queen variety for next year.

Reminds me of shucking ears of sweet white corn in the backyard as a kid in south Jersey during summers like this. Perhaps it is the same type of corn? We always bought from some local farmer or roadside stall.
