This little pond is the reason our garden produced so many vegetables this year.
Here in this part of Georgia we are still in a major drought and it was extremely dry all summer. If not for having that small pond of water and this Gorman-Rupp Self-Priming pump with a Intek Briggs & Stratton motor, the garden would have dried completely up.
We bought the pump about 4 years ago at Northern Tool Co. and we haven't had a bit of trouble with it.
We irrigated the garden frequently and the pond maintained it's water level throughout the summer.(Thank goodness!)
The little pond of water was already here on the land when we bought it. There was an old home site nearby so I suspect it was one of their watering sources. The house was torn down in the 1930's though.
The pond is just down hill from our barn. The old home site was just behind where out barn sits and was just one of several old homesites on this 100 acres.
I could see Jack as I walked up hill from the pond. So... I called out to him.
He gives me this look like "you talking to me".
Jack had a dirt bath in mind. You can see how dusty it still is here. We haven't had a good rain in months.
Curiosity gets the best of Jack and he comes on over.
He makes like he doesn't like to be petted, but he does.
Jack can be so mule headed sometimes.
Have a great day.

Jack is adorable. I always call overhead irrigating....makin' it rain.
I just love your farm, Pam. It is such a lovely place. That Jack is a hoot.
I've been letting my hens out during the day too, but I have to watch them to make sure they don't head out to the front yard. I don't want them walking to the road and getting squashed!
Have a happy weekend. :)
I love playing about with my waterbutts, and I'd be very stuck without my pump. All the water needs to be elevated by about 6', or it's lots and lots of watering cans. A reliable pump is an absolute must.
Beautiful pictures of the farm.
I'd love to see any photos of any of those old homsites that are still standing on your land.Such stories they could probably reveal.
Is your pond kept full by a spring?

Lovely pictures!
Hi Pam, I like the new look blog! We take water so much for granted here, it is hard to imagine the work it takes to irrigate if you dont have it.
Peggy
Jacks a handsome feller lol :o)
Jack can just come live with me if he ever needs a new home! :-) Oh, how wonderful that you have the pond on your land and that it serves your fields so well! I'm glad the drought didn't ruin your crops this year!
Oh, that dust bath looks wonderfully relaxing and refreshing, doesn't it? Jack is awesome!
Great pictures! Jack bathes in dirt well doesn't he!:)
I just trotted back over here to tell you thanks for the wonderfully supportive and kind comments you left for me on my blog, concerning my son's injury.
It is much appreciated :)
Take Care,
Lisa

Thanks Peggy, you are ther first to notice the new look.
I wished we didn't have to irrigate. I always hope this summer will be a wetter one. maybe next summer.
