Cleaning out the Barn means Fertilizer for the Garden

This week we have been cleaning out the barn.

The Light Brahma rooster had something to crow about.

The loader and

our 1960 Ford dump truck came in handy.(and FarmMan too)

It took a lot of shoveling

but the garden will benefit from the compost next spring

We have the middle and the left side stalls of the barn cleaned out so far. It has made a nice pile of compost in the garden

The raised beds will also get new compost after the cabbage, lettuce, radishes, carrots, onions, and garlic finish producing this fall.

I also add the ashes from the wood heater to the raised beds. The big plants are Cayenne peppers. Those plants just keep on producing!
I also grew fire ants it the other side of the bed!
I didn't want to put poison in the bed so I tried boiling water and dug what I thought was the ant hill out. Hopefully that took care of those mean rascals. Their bites hurt!

The asparagus bed will be cut back in Feb. or March. and compost added then.

A video of the Turken Hens taking a dirt bath as we worked in the barn.

Bless their little hearts! The Turkens are finally growing back their feathers after a long molt.
I keep telling them they are cute to boost their ego.
I think it is working.

Have a great day.

Good Morning Pam, Can you believe how warm it has been? That compost will be great. Those pepper plants are amazing! Nalley and I enjoyed the video of the hens - that's cute. Hope you have a great weekend.

Girl, you guys have more energy than all Thomas Edison's lightbulbs! I love the cycle of life that God put in place. Everything takes care of everything else. A family
farm is one of the "greenest" places anyone can find if it's run right.

Hey, thank you so much for your kind words to me earlier this week. It meant so much with all that's been going on. Blessings to you. :)

I wish I had that much compost to put on my garden next year.

I see next spring plantings shooting up already. I really like the old dump truck. When I was growing up my grandpa had one that he put a cattle rack on to haul cattle to the market. I think it a 1960 model also and it was green.
